Since 1983, Friends of the Homeless has provided our fellow citizens who are experiencing a homeless crisis with the opportunity to reestablish themselves as members of the Columbus community.

YWCA Columbus’ Women’s Residency program is a permanent housing program that provides long-term housing and supportive services for nearly 100 women. In 2005, YWCA Columbus responded to a community call to take over emergency shelter and services for families without homes. Many are working poor and unable to meet high housing costs; many are women raising children alone. The 50-room center offers these families safety and support, a place where they can get three healthy meals a day and a warm, secure place to sleep. With their basic needs provided, parents can concentrate on moving forward, using the job-and-housing-search resources, transportation services and the five-star Step Up To Quality rated Safe & Sound child care program.

Star House

Founded in 2006, Star House is a social service agency that operates Central Ohio's only drop-in center for youth, ages 14-24, who are experiencing homelessness. At our drop-in center, youth are provided immediate access to food, clothing, hygiene items, laundry facilities, showers, and a safe place to be, as well as access to therapy, case management, housing, transportation, health care, employment, education, addiction services, legal aid, government benefits, ID cards and more. In addition, Star House is the nation's only drop-in center that hosts continuous best-practice research.

Star House, along with Finance Fund and the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority, jointly owns and operates Carol Stewart Village (CSV)—an affordable neighborhood for young adults coming out of homelessness, ages 18-24, with on-site programs and services.
